Lady Bulldogs Suffer 7-0 Setback To 29th-Ranked Kentucky On Friday
MSU and UK battled in two three set matches at court one and three respectively. At No. 1 State's Anastasia Kugakolova fell to 39th-ranked Kim Coventry. Coventry opened with a 7-5 win, but Kugakolova fought back in the second set to win 6-2, but could not overcome UK's top-ranked player in the third and final set, falling 6-3. MState sophomore Renee Joseph opened strong with a 6-4 first set-win over Joelle Schwenk, but she fell in the following two sets 6-2, 6-4.
The Blue and White clinched their fifth win in six matches at the No. 4 slot. UK's Danielle Petrisko topped MSU's Polina Kokoulina 7-5, 6-4. The Wildcats got on the board after garnering the doubles point, capturing all three matches. UK's 43rd-ranked tandem of Coventry and Carolina Escamilla won 8-6 over MSU's Kugakolova and Kokoulina.
State concludes the SEC weekend on Sunday, March 26, hosting 12th-ranked Vanderbilt. VU earned a 4-3 win over Mississippi in Oxford on Friday night. The MSU-VU match is slated for 1 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
