Defense Shines Again, Henig Has Best Day As MSU Dons Pads

The cool climate was also in sharp contrast to what the Bulldogs enjoyed two weeks ago when they finished their three days of shorts and head gear only and one practice period in shells, an NCAA-mandated acclimation period before donning full pads. State did not practice last week as the university observed spring break.
What did not change from Week 1 to Week 2 was head coach Sylvester Croom's outlook on the performance of his team. He found reason to praise his defense and had concerns with his offense.
Overall, I thought the effort was good, Croom said. But the defense just kicked the offense. They dominated the line of scrimmage and played with a swagger that was good to see.
But we didn't protect the quarterbacks very well and we didn't catch the ball all that well, Croom said. On the positive side, I thought Mike (Henig) had his best day of the spring. He showed some poise and confidence, and had a good understanding of where to go with the football.
MSU will continue its 2006 spring practice period with practices Thursday and Friday before scrimmaging for the first time Saturday.
