Bulldog Netmen Win 4-1 Over Oregon To Conclude Play At Blue-Gray Classic
Oregon got on the scoreboard first with wins at the #1 and #3 doubles courts.On court #1, Oregon's duo of Markus Schiller and Arron Spencer downed State'sIvan Bjelica and Jose-Carlos Pinto 8-4. The Ducks clinched the point at the #3spot when Mike Myrhed and Eric Pickard defeated the MSU tandem of Ryan Farlowand Philippe Frayssinoux 8-3. The match on court #2 was suspended with Oregon'sFernando Freilas and Gustavo Loza leading Bulldogs Florent Girod and PierreMouillon 7-6.
The Bulldogs opened singles play by winning the first set in all six matches.The first completed that evened the match at 1-1, was at the #5 position whereBulldog Girod defeated Oregon's Freilas 6-1, 6-0. The second point for theBulldogs came on the #4 court where MSU's Pinto won in straight sets over UO'sLoza 6-3, 6-2. State Freshman and Madison native Ryan Farlow notched the firstdual-match win of his career, winning 6-3, 6-4 over Oregon's Pickard at the #6position to give State a commanding 3-1 lead. Mouillon clinched the match forState, winning 6-3, 7-6(4) over Oregon's Spencer. The win was the fourthstraight for Mouillon. The match on the #1 court between MSU's Bjelica and UO'sSchiller was suspended with Bjelica leading 6-4, 5-5 while The match on court#3 was suspended with State's Frayssinoux and Oregon's Myrhed deadlocked at6-3, 3-6, 1-1. With the win, State moved to 4-6 overall while Oregon dropped to6-9.
This win today will help build our confidence, said MSU head coach SylvainGuichard. Now we have to get prepared to get back into conference play andcontinue to improve.
State's next action will be Friday, March 24 when the Bulldogs travel toLexington, Ky., to take on Kentucky at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs will then take onthe Vanderbilt Commodores on March 26 in Nashville, Tenn.
