Brady, Queen Finish Day One of Alabama Relays Decathlon in Top Five
Vancleave, Miss. freshman Brady sets personal bests in five events
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Mississippi State University decathletes freshmanDarryl Brady (Vancleave, Miss.) and sophomore Joseph Queen (Jackson,Miss.) closed out the opening day of the Alabama Relays in second andfifth places, respectively. Brady accumulated 3278 points, while Queenhas 3137.
They did so well. There's nothing bad about what they did today. Itwas a great day, said assistant coach Karen Rademeyer, who overseescombined event athletes.
Brady won the high jump competition, clearing a personal best 6-06,while Queen jumped five feet, nine-and-three-quarters inches. Runninginto a negative wind, Brady ran 11.78 seconds in the day's first event;the 100-meter dash and Queen crossed the finish line in 11.74.
Queen's leap of 20-06½ marked a personal best in the long jump, whileBrady leaped 20-04½. In the shot put, Brady and Queen threw 33-10¾ and34-02, respectively. In the closing event of the day, Queen clocked53.09, while Brady ran 53.49.
Tomorrow's decathlon competition resumes at 9 a.m. CT with the110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and1500-meter run.
