MSU Netmen To Face Texas Tech In First Round Of Blue-Gray Classic

PLEASE NOTE: A change in the draw of the Blue-Gray Classic was made late Wednesday, changing MSU's first-round opponent from Louisville (originally released) to Texas Tech.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Mississippi State men's tennis team will open play at the Blue-Gray Collegiate Classic Thursday, matching up with Texas Tech University. The first-round match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center in Montgomery. The four-day event will be played in a dual match format and all teams are guaranteed three matches.
MSU is 3-4 overall this season and are 1-3 in league play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 4-3 win over Alabama last weekend, earning their first league win of the season. State's other two wins came against non-conference foes UAB and South Alabama. All four of the Bulldog's losses have come against SEC competition including two losses to teams ranked in the top-15.
Texas Tech is 7-3 overall this season. The Red Raiders knocked off Troy University in a play-in match on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs and the Red Raiders have only met once in the two program's histories. State defeated Texas Tech 4-3 at the Corpus Christi Invitational in 1970. This year will mark the 57th year of the Blue-Gray Collegiate Classic and the eighth time MSU has competed. MSU won the event in 1992, defeating two top-10 opponents on their way to the winning the championship.
