Lady Bulldogs Finish Tied For Second At Pinehurst Challenge
PINEHURST, N.C. ?€“ The Mississippi State women's golf team shot a 302 on thefinal day of action Tuesday at the Pinehurst Challenge to finish in a tie forsecond place. The team score in the third round was the best of any team onTuesday and matched State's highest finish this season.
Leading the way for the seventh consecutive tournament was junior Amanda Mathis.Mathis matched the lowest round of the tournament, shooting a 71 on Tuesday,propelling her to a fifth place finish. Sophomore Julia Huh carded a 73 infinal round action to complete her score of 227 and finish in a career bestsixth place. Ashleigh Korzack finished in a tie for 28th after shooting a 237.Stephanie Godare fired a 239 to finish in a tie for 37th while Leigh Phillipsimproved eight spots on the final day, shooting a 78 on Tuesday.
The conditions were tough again today as we started in the rain and battledthrough constant wind, said MSU head coach Christi Sanders. However, the teamplayed well today and we were able to hang on to second place and beat someteams we needed to beat. Amanda and Julia played outstanding today and I amproud of their performances.
Maryland shot a 305 on the final day to retain the lead and win the team title.North Carolina-Wilmington's Michelle Jarmon shot a 71 on the final day toregain her first round lead and take home individual honors.
Mississippi State's next action will be March 24-26 when the Lady Bulldogstravel to Athens, Ga. to compete in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.
