Lady Bulldogs Remain In Second Heading Into Final Round Of Pinehurst Challenge

"The wind was a major factor in the high scores today," said MSU head coachChristi Sanders. "We had so many misfortunes from good shots due to therough conditions and the firmness of the greens. The good thing is that weare still in contention and we will have to have a better round tomorrow towin the event."
State's Amanda Mathis and Stephanie Godare both fired a 78 on Monday to leadMSU. Mathis and sophomore Julia Huh are tied for 11th place with a two-roundscore of 154. Godare is one shot back at 155 and is tied for 15th. AshleighKorzack fired an 81 in the second round and stands in a tie for 25th headinginto Tuesday's final round. Competing in her second collegiate tournament,freshman Leigh Phillips has a two-round total of 176 after two rounds ofplay.
Maryland remains the leader of the team competition, carding a 310 on Mondayand stands six shots ahead of MSU, Iowa and North Carolina-Wilmington.Washington State's Anastasia Kostina shot an even-par 72 on Monday toovertake the lead in the individual competition.
Final round action of the Pinehurst Challenge will get under way Tuesday at8 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
