State Golfers Set To Defend Title At The South Alabama Classic
STARKVILLE , Miss. ?€“ Mississippi State's men's golf team will look to defend its team-title from a season ago at the University of South Alabama Spring Classic in Mobile, Ala. on Monday, March 13. The 54-hole event will continue thru Tuesday.
In 2005, the Bulldogs finished the event at 2-under par and overtook the lead on the final day to capture the team's first tournament win since 1999. Former MSU golfer Joe Deraney also took home individual honors with a playoff win.
This year's event has moved from Mobile 's Azalea City Golf Course to the par-72, 6,848-yard Heron Lakes Country Club.
MState's probable five-man line up includes SEC Golfer of the Week Noah Goldman, Carlos Sainz, Jr., Matt Fast, Josh Oller and Logan Young. Head coach Clay Homan's squad is fresh off a fifth-place finish last week at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee , Fla.
First round action will begin at 8 a.m. which will be followed by the second round in the afternoon time slot.
