'Dogs Finish Headgear-Only Practices With "Average" Outing

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State Head Coach Sylvester Croom praised his defense for the third-consecutive day while calling the overall effort "average" as the Bulldogs worked in shorts and head gear only to close out a three-day acclimation period mandated by the NCAA.
"We were sloppy today," Croom said. "We got another great effort out of our defense. They're making plays and getting turnovers. Loose balls, tipped balls, they're making plays."
The head coach continued to be impressed with the overall playmaking ability of the wide receiver corps, but stressed consistency from the position.
"Guys like (Tyler) Threadgill, (Aubrey) Bell and (junior college transfer Tony) Burks ?€“ and Burks is just trying to figure everything out ?€“ are good one period and not the next," Croom said.
Wednesday's practice was moved up one day to avoid severe weather anticipated in the area tomorrow. The team will take tomorrow off before putting on shoulder pads for the first time this spring on Friday. The players will have next week off for the university's spring break.
