State Golfers Finishes Fifth At Seminole Intercollegiate

Noah Goldman places fourth in individual standings
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Mississippi State fired a second-straight 2-over par 290 in the final round of the Seminole Intercollegiate and maintained its fifth-place standing to conclude the 54-hole Florida State-hosted event on Tuesday. State has now run a string of six consecutive top-10 finishes dating back to the Memphis Intercollegiate last fall.
MSU freshman Noah Goldman carded the Bulldog's low-round of the day with a 4-under par 68, a new season-low for the Longwood, Fla. native. Goldman's tournament scorecard included rounds of 71-72-68 (211, -5) to finish a season-best fourth in the individual standings. Freshman Carlos Sainz, Jr. also registered an under-par round at 1-under par 71. Sainz, Jr. finished the tournament in a tie for 30th alongside teammates Josh Oller and Matt Fast. Fast tallied a 75 on the final day, while Oller concluded with a 76 to finish up State's scorecard. As a team, the Maroon and White posted eight of 15 rounds at par or better during the three-day event.
"We're real pleased with how we played this week," said MSU head coach Clay Homan. "Noah (Goldman) played extremely well and finished fourth. I think everyone in the line up played well at different time this week."
Coastal Carolina, who trailed East Tennessee State by five strokes heading in to the final day, posted a tournament-total 13-under par to claim the team title. The Wolfpack of North Carolina State took home runner up honors, while North Carolina and East Tennessee State round out the top-four squads.
MState finished ahead of four Southeast District teams participating in the field ?€“ UAB, Florida State, Vanderbilt and Central Florida.
N.C. State's Stephen Lewton won the individual title in a playoff with Coastal Carolina's Dustin Johnson, who led the event from start to finish.
"Hopefully, we can build off this heading in to next week to defend our title at South Alabama," added Homan.
State returns to the course on Monday, March 13, at the South Alabama Classic in Mobile, Ala. The Bulldogs will defend their title from a year ago at USA-hosted event. This year's tournament will be held at Herron Lakes Country Club.
