MState Men's Track Enjoys First Day Of Outdoor Season

In the 5K, juniors Travis McKay and Wade Martin led the way for the Bulldogs, finishing in third and fourth places, respectively, posting times of 14 minutes, 25 seconds and 14:34. Sophomore John Brigham placed sixth, with senior Gedamu Ege following in seventh. Freshman Pad Judd rounded out the MState troops in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish.
Junior Jerald Wilson finished in fourth place in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet and 11 inches, and sophomore Joseph Queen managed seventh with a jump of 20 feet, nine and three-quarters inches.
The men's 5K was probably the high point of the trip, head coach Al Schmidt said following the meet. Our long jumpers did well, but we didn't have the best day with our relays; but it was our first outdoor meet of the season, and we'll figure it out.
In the 1,600 meter sprint medley, the Bulldogs' team of juniors Ezra Jones, Nathan Daniels, Bruce Davis and sophomore Isaiah Marshall placed second. The distance medley also saw the MState squad place second, crossing the tape just eight hundredths of a second behind the victors. The Bulldog tandem of freshman Zach Green, sophomore Tim Williams and juniors Jones and Ryan Irwin finished in 10:32.35.
The Snowbird will conclude with several field events and most sprints on Saturday.
The weather is great, Schmidt added. It's time to run fast tomorrow.
