Wilson, McPherson Lead Lady Bulldogs On Day Two Of SEC Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. ?€“ Mississippi State University junior Nicola Wilsonbroke the school record en route to a fifth-place finish in the shotput on day two of the 2006 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track andField Championships. Wilson's throw of 49 feet, one and three-quarterinches was a half-inch shy of provisionally qualifying the Trenton,N.J. native for the NCAA Championships and scored four points for MSU.State senior Jen McPherson qualified for Sunday's mile run final with apreliminary time of 4:51.20.
We've got the distance medley relay, mile and high jump finalstomorrow, said MSU head coach Al Schmidt. There are some big pointsstill out there. Annie (Falor) ran great, so we're happy with that.There's some disappointment with Zita (Magloire), but she's had a greatsenior season so far. She'll be anchoring the DMR tomorrow, so she hasanother chance to put a stamp on this season. Hopefully, we'll dobetter tomorrow.
Sophomore Annie Falor finished the 3000-meter run in 10:01.46, apersonal best for the Flagstaff, Ariz. native. Teammate senior ZitaMagloire failed to finish the race. Junior Liz Grube ran a personalbest 5:00.72 in the mile, while sophomore Andrea Wahlin ran 2:15.21 inthe 800-meter run to set a new personal record.
In the 55-meter dash preliminaries, freshman Gabrielle Dillon ran 7.06(7.58 converted to 60-meter time) to finish 15th. The converted timeplaces Dillon four-hundredths-of-a-second off fifth-place on the MSUall-time superlatives list in the 60-meter dash.
In field events, freshman Janelle Finley leaped 18-07¼ to finish 12th in the long jump. The mark is tied for the fifth-best in the event in school history. Junior Christina Hernandez and freshman Emily Sanders each set personal records in the shot put with throws of 43-05¼ and 43-04¼, respectively.
After two days of competition, the Lady Bulldogs sit in 11th place withfour points.
Women's action resumes Sunday morning at 9 a.m. CT. at the Stephen C.O'Connell Center on the University of Florida campus.
