MSU's Jamont Gordon Named To CollegeInsider.com Freshmen All-America Team

The current SEC Freshman of the Week for the league-high fourth timethis season, Gordon is one of only three Southeastern Conference freshmenfeatured on CollegeInsider.com's 25-man team listing. The talented rookietandem of Tyrus Thomas and Tasmin Mitchell from the SEC Champion LSU Tigersalso made the list. Eastern Washington's Rodney Stuckey was named thewebsite's National Freshman of the Year by a vote of NCAA Division I coacheswith final selections made by CollegeInsider.com's senior staff.
A native of Nashville heading back to his hometown for this week's SECMen's Basketball Tournament, Gordon begins postseason play ranked 11thnationally among the NCAA's top freshmen scorers (13.9 ppg), 15th inrebounding (6.6 rpg), 13th in assists (4.3 apg) and 17th in minutes played(32.9 mpg). He joins Louisiana-Lafayette senior Dwayne Mitchell as the onlytwo players in NCAA Division I men's basketball currently averaging at least13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest on the year.
Entering Thursday's first-round SEC Tournament contest against SouthCarolina needing just two assists to break Rich Knarr's freshman seasonschool record of 127 assists set in 1972-73, Gordon stands 12th among theSEC's overall scoring leaders, ninth in rebounding, sixth in assists and10th in minutes. The former second-team PARADE All-American at Oak HillAcademy leads all SEC freshmen in scoring average and owns a current stringof 11 consecutive games scoring in double figures. The lone MSU player tohave started all 29 games to date this season has scored in double digits 25times and has been the Bulldogs' leading scorer or co-leader a team-most 12times on the season.
