Lady Bulldogs In Third; Mathis Tied For First At Papa John's Collegiate
The Lady Bulldogs fired a 303 on day one and stand only four shots back ofthe current leader, College of Charleston. Alabama stands in second aftershooting a 301 in the first round. Louisville, East Carolina and Kentuckyare in a tie for fourth with a score of 305 while Miami is one stroke backand stands in seventh.
State's Amanda Mathis shot an even-par 72 and stands in a tie for firstplace with South Florida's Christina Jones in the individual competition.Senior Stephanie Godare is in a tie for 11th after shooting a 75. SophomoreJulia Huh shot a 77 on day one and stands in a tie for 25th. Senior AshleighKorzack shot is in a tie for 39th after firing a 79 while freshman LeighPhillips completed her first collegiate round with an 84 and stands in a tiefor 60th.
"Today we wanted to stay close to the lead if not in the lead," said MSU head coach Christi Sanders. "Being only four strokes back gives us momentum going into tomorrow's round. I am proud of the performance from Amanda and Stephanie as they paced the team today."
Second round play will begin Monday morning with a first-tee start at 7 a.m.CT. The third and final round will begin Tuesday at 7 a.m. CT with a shotgunstart.
