MSU's Homan Wins 2005 Mississippi State Amateur Crown
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Mississippi State's men's golf coach Clay Homan won the 2005 Mississippi State Amateur Championship on Sunday at the Hattiesburg Country Club. The second-year coach fired a final-round eight-under par 64 to finish the 72-hole event at 13-under par.
This year's title is the second for Homan. He captured the 1994 State Amateur title at Colonial Deerfield. Homan qualified for the event on Monday with an even-par round to take the last qualifying spot in the field.
The Fulton, Miss. native came into the final round trailing MSU signee Matt Fast by four strokes. Fast finished at 11-under par with a two-under par 70 to finish runner-up to his future head coach in the fall.
State sophomore Josh Oller posted a fourth-place finish after recording a final round score of 73. MSU's Jake Lambert finished the four-day event in 22nd-place.
