NCAA Tennis Brackets To Be Released On ESPNEWS Wednesday
MSU's netmen expect to receive their 15th consecutive NCAA bidWednesday. State is one of only seven teams in the country (Florida,Georgia, MSU, Southern Cal, Stanford, TCU and UCLA) to have made 14consecutive NCAA appearances. The Bulldogs reached the round of 16 in 11 ofthose seasons, including the national semifinals in 1994 and 1998.
Rated 23rd nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Associationrankings released Monday, the Bulldogs are 12-9 overall this season and went6-5 in the Southeastern Conference. Head coach Sylvain Guichard was namedSEC Co-Coach of the Year after State made the biggest turnaround in theleague from last season.
The Lady Bulldog netters, ranked 26th in the country at present, arelooking for their first NCAA selection since 2001, when the team ended athree-year run in the national championship draw. State reached the secondround of the tournament each of those three campaigns.
Coach Tracy Lane's squad, which gained a share of the SEC WesternDivision title this season, is 12-7 overall and went 5-6 in the conference.The 12 wins were the most recorded by Lane in her nine-year tenure at State.
First- and second-round NCAA play will be held May 13-15 at 16 men's andwomen's sites around the country (will be released in conjunction with thedraws on Wednesday). The men's finals (May 21-24) will be held in CollegeStation, Texas, while the women's championship (May 19-22) will bedetermined in Athens, Ga.
