MSU Women's Tennis Standout Zsuzsanna Fodor Jumps Into Top 15
Individually, MSU's Zsuzsanna Fodor jumped three spots in singles, checkingin this week at No. 15. The Budapest, Hungary, native sported a 2-1 singlesrecord since the last poll was released. The sophomore has won eight out ofher last nine singles matches with her lone loss coming against sixth-rankedJennifer Magley of Florida. Heading into this week¹s SEC Tournament, Fodorowns an impressive 14-3 overall record in dual singles matches, 8-3 in theleague.
Joining Fodor in this week's rankings is Anastasia Kugakolova, making hersecond straight appearance in the rankings. The 113th-ranked juniorfinished the regular season with a 10-6 singles record, 5-6 within the SEC.Victorious in five of her last nine matches, the former St. Petersburg,Russia, product posted an 8-1 record at home with her only loss coming toTennessee's Blakeley Griffith.
State's No. 1 doubles combo of Fodor and Kugakolova were also included inthis week's rankings as the duo enters competition with a No. 21 ranking.Nationally ranked since the beginning of the season the tandem has foundthemselves ranked as high as No. 13 and no lower than No. 46. Playing atthe No. 1 position in every doubles match the season, the duo has posted a13-3 record with an 8-3 mark in the league. Their three losses have come tothe sixth, 12th, and 38th-ranked doubles teams.
The Lady Bulldogs return to the court Thursday at 9 a.m. when theyparticipate in the 2005 SEC Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The 8th-seededLady Bulldogs take on the 9th-seeded LSU Lady Tigers in Thursday's firstopening round game.
