Bulldogs Move Up Three Spots In Trackwire 25
"We're moving up the ladder like I thought we would," said MSU head coach AlSchmidt. "It's just beginning for us. We have a lot better team than mostpeople think. Hopefully, we'll continue to climb all year and finish in the topat the end. That's our goal."
In Austin, junior Steve Mullings won the 100-meter dash in 10.06 seconds, thetop regional qualifying time in the NCAA this season. Although not an NCAAevent, the Bulldogs won the 4x200-meter relay in 1:21.62. The wins mark thefifth and sixth trophies MSU has won at the prestigious event over the pastfour years.
Mullings posted the NCAA's leading time in the 200-meter dash (20.68) at theMSU-hosted Bulldog Invitational on April 2.
In the 4x100-meter relay, sophomore Eliott Morant, senior all-American JamelAshley, Mullings and senior all-American LaChristopher Lewis finished in thirdwith a regional qualifying time of 39.09. The mark ties a two-year old MSUschool record. The 4x400 team of Ashley, Davis, freshman Elzie Coleman andLewis ran 3:05.45, finishing in sixth.
For the second time this season, Lewis leaped to a regional qualifying mark inthe long jump (24-10) at Texas. His season best of 25-5 1/2 was recorded at theBulldog Invitational.
The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs return home this weekend to host the Jace LacosteInvitational at W.O. Spencer Stadium/Carl Maddox Track. Field events begin at 9a.m. CT. Track events are scheduled to start at noon.
