MSU Golfers Move Up Two Spots After 36 Holes At Billy Hitchcock

AUBURN, Ala. -- Mississippi State moved up two spots on the leaderboard from 11th to ninth after Saturday's second round of the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate in Auburn, Ala. The Bulldog golfers turned in a team-total 298 at the par-72 Auburn University Course. MSU heads into the final round on Sunday nine shots out of the top five.
State was paced by the two seniors in the line up. Joe Deraney and Tim Satow each recorded one-over par 73 in the second round. Deraney rebounded after Friday's opening-round 77. He moved ten spots in the individual standings from 32nd to 22nd. Satow jumped into a tie for 15th with his score. Freshman Michael Knight registered a two-over par 75 after his 77 on the first day. Jake Lambert's 77 concluded the Bulldog's scoring for the day. Sophomore Josh Oller turned in a round of 78.
Greg Huxman, who is competing this weekend as an individual fired a 78 on Saturday. Huxman was one of three State golfers to record an eagle in the second round.
The Auburn Tigers held on to the overall lead, but slipped back into the field after shooting a 299 on the day. The host school went in to the second round with a seven-shot lead, but will take a three-stroke advantage over Memphis into Sunday's finale. Charlotte, Mississippi, Georgia State and South Alabama round out the top-five squads in the team standings.
First round leader Ian Rochester of Memphis posted a round of 72 and leads by five strokes over a trio of players on second.
The Maroon and White will begin the third round from No. 10 and tee off at 8:50 a.m.
