#22 Lady Bulldogs Drop 4-3 Decision At #25 South Carolina
MSU grabbed the early advantage as State's 13th-ranked combo of ZsuzsannaFodor and Anastasia Kugkolova picked up the first doubles match of the day,downing South Carolina duo Danielle Wiggins and Miranda Gutierrez 8-2 at theNo. 1 position. South Carolina's tandem of Christyn Lucas and Fallon Koonrebounded from a 5-3 deficit to take the second doubles match over MSU'sTarryn and Hayley Rudman 8-5 at No. 2. At the No. 3 position, LadyGamecocks Megan McGovok and Magda Wojdlo clinched the match for thehomestanding team when they defeated Magdi Rekasi and Polina Kokoulina forthe first point of the afternoon.
The Lady Bulldogs tied the match at one point apiece followingthe18th-ranked Fodor's seventh SEC singles victory at the No. 1 position.The former Budapest, Hungary product garnered the win by defeating USC'sWiggins 6-3, 6-1. Carolina took a 3-1 edge when both Rekasi and Kokoulinafell at the No. 6 and 5 positions. Rekasi was ousted by McGavock who won6-2, 6-2, while Kokoulina dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to the Lady Gamecock'sKoon.
Freshman Renee Joseph brought the Lady Bulldogs back within point one at 2-3when she knocked off Wojdylo 7-5, 6-3 at the No, 4 position. Statecompleted the comeback and tied the match at three points apiece when TarrynRudman won her second match of the weekend, beating Carolina's Gutierrez4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the third position. Clinching the match for SouthCarolina, Lucas won the fourth point of the afternoon when she defeated the93rd-ranked Kugakolova at No. 2.
MSU returns to the court on Friday, April 15, when the Lady Bulldogs take onin-state and SEC Western Division rival Mississippi in Oxford. The match isslated to begin at 4 p.m.
