McKay Meets Regional Qualifying Mark On Day Three Of Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas ?€“ Mississippi State University men's outdoor track and fieldsquad closed out day three of the Texas Relays with sophomore Travis McKayqualifying for the Mideast Regional in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase.
TheBulldogs also qualified one individual and one relay team for Saturday's final.The event is being held at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texascampus.
"Travis (McKay) qualifying for regionals is a big thing," said MSU head coach AlSchmidt. "The 4x1 team did great. Tomorrow's a big day for us relay-wise. We'regoing for the triple crown ?€“?€“ the 4x1, 4x2 and 4x4. The 4x1500 team ran welltonight."
McKay finished sixth in the steeplechase in a personal best 9:02.92. Hisprevious best was 9:06.75 set at the 2004 Penn Relays.
MSU finished second to Arizona State in heat 3 of the Clyde Littlefield4x100-meter relay preliminaries. The Bulldogs posted the fifth fastestqualifying time with a regional mark and season best time of 39.45. The relayfinal is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT on Saturday.
In the 100-meter dash, junior Steve Mullings won his heat in 10.31, also aregional mark. It was the second fastest qualifying time posted in the event.The final is set for 3:40 p.m. CT on Saturday.
The 4x1500-meter relay team of senior Gedamu Ege, freshman John Brigham,sophomore Brandon Smith and sophomore Dustin Fier placed sixth with aseason-best time of 16:01.99.
