Bulldogs Begin Outdoor Season Tied For 15th In Trackwire 25

State junior Steve Mullings ran away with the 100- and 200-meter dash meettitles at the Bulldog Invitational. Mullings' time of 10.06 in the 100 ties aW.O. Spencer Stadium/Carl Maddox Track record set by Terry Scott of Tennesseein 1985. He won the 200 in 20.68. Both times are regional qualifying marks andthe fastest times posted in those events in the NCAA this season.
In addition to Mullings, all-Americans senior LaChristopher Lewis (20.80),senior Jamel Ashley (20.89) and sophomore Arthur Davis (21.01) have posted thefourth, seventh and tenth best times in the 200 this season. Davis' time of46.98 in the 400 is 14th.
The 4x4 relay team of Ashley, Davis, Pyant II and Lewis posted 3:05.84 on March20. The time ranks as the best in the NCAA this season.
MSU has two 4x100-meter relay teams included among the nation's top 20 timesposted this season. Sophomore Eliott Morant, Ashley, Mullings and Lewis won theevent at the Alabama Relays with a time of 39.72. At the Bulldog Invitational,Davis, Ashley, Mullings and Lewis registered a time of 40.46.
Lewis' leap of 25-5 1/2 at the Bulldog Invitational ranks second on theperformance list, while junior Kendall Pyant's 24-4 1/4 is 14th. In throws,sophomore Matt Whalen has posted a top 50 mark in the shot put with his win atthe FSU Snowbird on March 4 (55-0).
