Men's Golf Remains Ninth After 36 Holes At LSU Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Mississippi State held on to the ninth spot in the second day of the LSU Spring Invitational at The University Club in Baton Rouge, La. The squad fired a second round 302 for a two-round total of 600. The Bulldogs sit are five strokes out of the top-four teams in the 17-team field.
Senior Joe Deraney moved into a tie for 14th after turning in a one-under-par 71 in the second round. The Statesboro, Ga. native bounced back after registering a 77 on Friday. After first round action he was in 55th place. He was one of only four golfers to post rounds of under par on Saturday. Senior Tim Satow remained in the top-20 after shooting a 77 on the day. The Durbin, South Africa native slipped to from sixth to 18th after 36 holes. Sophomore Josh Oller carded a 76 for the second consecutive day and currently tied for 45th. Jake Lambert and Michael Knight both fired rounds of 78 to conclude the scoring for State.
LSU took over sole possession of the top spot on the team leaderboard on Saturday. The Tigers finished with a 290 and will take an eight stroke lead over Lamar into Sunday's final round. Arkansas State, Texas-Arlington and South Alabama close out the top five teams.
Fernwood, Miss. native and LSU freshman Beck Troutman leads the individual competition after posting a three-under-par round of 69. He leads a quartet of players that are currently three shots back in second place.
The Maroon and White will conclude the LSU Spring Invitational on Sunday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m.
