23rd-ranked Lady Bulldogs Rally For 4-3 Win At LSU
LSU's tandem of Lauren Seamen and Camila Caliari defeated Madgi Rekasi andPolina Kokoulina 8-3 at the No. 3 position to gain the early advantagetowards the doubles point. Lady Bulldog sisters Hayley and Tarryn Rudmandowned LSU's Staten Spencer and Marina Chiarelli 8-4, leaving the doublespoint to be decided at the No. 1 and final position. State's 20th-rankedtandem of Zsuzsanna Fodor and Anastasia Kugakolova defeated Lady TigersAmanda Mang and Tiffany Tucker 9-7 to claim the match and the doublespoint.
In singles, the Lady Bulldogs grabbed the first point of the afternoon asKugakolova downed LSU's Seamen, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 position, giving theLady Bulldogs a 2-0 advantage. LSU, however, stormed back for threeconsecutive points and took a 3-2 match lead. At the No. 4 position, LadyTiger Marina Chiarelli defeated Renee Joseph, 6-0, 6-3, and Tucker followedwith a, 6-4, 6-2 win over Kokoulina at the No. 5 position. LSU's Caliaricapped the Lady Tiger three-point run as she downed Rekasi, 6-4, 6-2 at theNo. 6 position, giving LSU a 3-2 advantage with only two matches remaining.
At the No. 3 position, Lady Bulldog sophomore Tarryn Rudman kept MSU aliveand evened the match at three as she defeated Spencer, 6-1, 7-5 in straightsets. The 21st-ranked Fodor then clinched the Lady Bulldog comeback as shedowned the 99th-ranked Mang, 6-4, 6-4, giving State the 4-3 match victory.Fodor's win over Mang improved her singles record to 32-6 overall, etchingher name in the MSU women's tennis record books as she passed Andrea Lordfor the MSU all-time record for singles wins in a season. Lord recorded her31 wins during the 1999-2000 season.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action next weekend as State travels to FloridaFriday, April 8, at 5 p.m. to take on the 9th-ranked Gators and wraps up theweekend with a date at No. 24 South Carolina Sunday, April 10, at 1 p.m.
