MSU Women Golfers Compete At Pinehurst Challenge
"This event will start off a very busy March schedule for us with three tournaments in the next three and a half weeks," said head coach Christi Sanders. "The players are hitting the ball well, and we looking forward to getting the competition started. We will only see some of the teams in the field this one time, so we need to get the head-to-head win over them."
The field includes #25 Washington State, #35 Oregon, #38 UNC Wilmington, #48 East Carolina, #47 Georgia State, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, James Madison, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Ole Miss, UNC Greensboro, Oral Roberts, Penn State and Western Carolina.
On Sunday and Monday, the tournament will consist of 18-hole tee-time rounds each day with an 18-hole shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
State's lineup for the tournament includes seniors Beth Irwin and Janet Dyer, junior Stephanie Godare, sophomore Amanda Mathis and freshman Julia Huh. Irwin paces the squad with a 73.79 stroke average in her five tournaments of the season. Second on the squad is Mathis with a 74.71 average.
The team enters the tournament coming off a fifth place showing at the Papa John¹s Collegiate Golf Tournament in Miami, Fla.
