Lady Bulldog Netters Fall To Wildcats In First SEC Match Of Season
To start the match, Kentucky won the doubles point. State's 26th-ranked tandem of Zsuzsanna Fodor and Anastasia Kugakolova fell to UK's sixth-ranked Sarah Foster and Aibika Kalsarieva at the top spot, 8-6. At No. 2, Polina Kokoulina and Magdi Rekasi dropped their match, 8-1, to 16th-ranked Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk. Hayley Rudman and Tarryn Rudman were defeated by Emily Foster and Lara Maurer, 8-6, at the third position.
In singles, 28th-ranked Fodor won the second set of her match with eighth-ranked Kalsarieva at the top spot, 7-5, forcing a superset tiebreaker after falling 6-3 in the first. Kalsarieva won the match in a 10-7 decision over Fodor in the tiebreaker. Kugakolova also took her match to three sets, falling 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 to 53rd-ranked Sarah Foster at the second spot.
Sophomore Tarryn Rudman fell, 6-0, 6-1, to 43rd-ranked Coventry at No. 3. Freshman Kokoulina dropped her match at the fourth spot to Schwenk, 6-0, 6-2. At No. 5, senior Rekasi fell, 6-1, 6-1, to Maurer. Renee Joseph lost her match in a second set tiebreaker, 6-0, 7-6(4), to Danielle Petrisko at the sixth spot.
Next, the squad travels to Nashville, Tenn., to face the sixth-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores on Sun., Mar. 6, at noon at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center.
