Lady Bulldog Golfers Tied For Eighth After Day One Of Pinehurst Challenge
"We were paired with ECU and Washington State today, and they both posted very nice rounds," said head coach Christi Sanders. "The golf course is a very tough and challenging venue and, with the windy conditions today, it just made the course that much tougher. The field is stacked up through the third and 15th positions. We will just have to pay very hard the next two day to move up the leader board."
Senior Beth Irwin paced the squad with her 77 in the opening round of competition. Irwin is tied for 15th entering day two. Freshman Julia Huh shot a 79 for tied for 25th place. Houston, Texas, native Stephanie Godare is tied for 43rd place, firing an 81, and Aberystwyth, Wales, native Janet Dyer shot an 82, leaving her tied for 45th place. Amanda Mathis recorded an 83 on day one for tied for 57th place.
The field includes #25 Washington State, #35 Oregon, #38 UNC Wilmington, #48 East Carolina, #47 Georgia State, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, James Madison, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Ole Miss, UNC Greensboro, Oral Roberts, Penn State and Western Carolina.
On Monday, the tournament will consist of an 18-hole tee-time round and an 18-hole shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
