MSU Women Golfers Advance To Fourth Place At Pinehurst Challenge
"The windy conditions continued to be troublesome, but we stayed positive and focused on each shot today," said head coach Christi Sanders. "Beth and Amanda got off to a slow start, but held their composure and finished strong. Juli played her round as solid as I have seen her play thus far in competition. We know the weather will be a factor tomorrow with rain and strong winds, but we expect it and will give our best effort in the final round."
Senior Irwin leads the squad for the second time of the tournament. She fired a 73, moving her into tied for seventh overall and five strokes behind the leader Becky Berzonski of UNC Wilmington. Freshman Julia Huh also shot a 74, her collegiate career best, leaving her in 13th place.
Amanda Mathis improved her score by seven strokes, shooting a 76 for tied for 32nd. Janet Dyer recorded an 81 in her second round, and Stephanie Godare shot an 84.
The field includes #25 Washington State, #35 Oregon, #38 UNC Wilmington, #48 East Carolina, #47 Georgia State, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, James Madison, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Ole Miss, UNC Greensboro, Oral Roberts, Penn State and Western Carolina.
The final day of competition will begin with an 18-hole shotgun start at 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
