Menb(TM)s Golf Places Sixth In The Irish Invitational
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. ?€“ Mississippi State's men's golf team slipped two spots to sixth on the final day of the Irish Invitational in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The squad registered a final round 329 at the par-72 El Campeón Course at Mission Inn Resort.
Senior Joe Deraney recorded State's top-finishing spot, placing 14th in the field. With his finish, he has placed in the top-20 in five of the six tournaments in 2004-05. He fired a final round five-over-par 77 on a day where the lowest score turned in was a 74. Sophomore Josh Oller finished 24th, while Tim Satow completed the event two strokes back in the 28th spot. Michael Knight and Jake Lambert rounded out the MSU scorecard with a 42nd and 45th finishes respectively.
The Shockers of Wichita State held on to the lead to win by four stokes over Colorado State. San Diego State took third-place honors, while host University of Notre Dame and Penn State tied for fourth. WSU's Judd Easterling garnered individual honors with scores of 67-74-74.
The Bulldogs have a quick turnaround playing this weekend, March 11-13 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. in the Conrad Rehling Invitational at Ol' Colony Golf Course. The event will mark the Maroon and White's first three-day event of the campaign.
