Croom Applauds Hard Work, Looks For Progress
"The guys are working hard," Croom said. "I was pleased with the way we are running to the football. We're going in the right direction."
The Bulldog head coach specifically called out sophomore defensive tackle Corey Clark (Taylorsville, Miss.) for his work Tuesday. Croom said Clark, who played in all 11 games last fall with three starts, had a good off-season and came into spring drills in better physical shape. Clark made 28 tackles last year, including three for loss (minus 6 yards).
But Croom was not nearly as complimentary of the offense, which for a second straight day, worked without first-unit quarterback Omarr Conner (Macon, Miss.). The returning regular signal-caller is nursing an ankle sprain.
"We did a lot of work in the three-step throwing game, which is a staple of the West Coast Offense," Croom said, "but we're just not good enough. The offensive line did not protect and the quarterbacks didn't get the ball out of their hands fast enough."
State works for the final two days this week on Thursday and Friday before taking next week off for spring break.
