Men's Golf Travels To Conrad Rehling Invitational
STARKVILLE, Miss. ?€“ The Bulldog golf team returns to the course this weekend, March 11-13, traveling across the state line to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to participate in the Conrad Rehling Invitational at Ol' Colony Golf Course. The 54-hole, three-day event is being hosted by the University of Alabama.
State just returned from Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., competing in the Irish Invitational this past Monday and Tuesday. MSU placed sixth in the 13-team field, hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
The probable starting line up for the Maroon and White line up will be senior Joe Deraney. The Statesboro, Ga. product registered his fifth top-20 finish of the season this past week, placing 14th in the field. Senior Tim Satow, who carded a new career-low of 70, remains in head coach Clay Homan's five-man line up along with sophomore Josh Oller. Back in the line up this week will be sophomore Greg Huxman, who comes into the tournament with a 74.73 scoring clip. Making his second start of the 2004-05 campaign will be Jared Jimenez. Jimenez finished tied for 35th at the 2004 edition of the Conrad Rehling Invitational.
The Maroon and White finished last season's tournament in 12th with rounds of 304-313-304. Deraney led all State individuals with a 17th-place finish.
Competing in the 2005 Conrad Rehling Invitational will be Alabama, Charleston, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, Memphis, Mississippi, South Alabama, Tulane and UAB. The Spartans of Michigan State come into the tournament ranked No. 8 in this week's Golfweek Top-50. GSU is listed at No. 23, while the Crimson Tide holds the No. 27 spot, followed by No. 34 Memphis and No. 40 Mississippi.
Ol' Colony is a Jerry Pate designed course that is a par-72 and spans over 7,041 yards. The tournament is named after former Alabama coach, Conrad Rehling, who led the Crimson Tide for 17 years.
The tournament will get underway at 8 a.m. CT on Friday morning. The Alabama Golf Association will provide live scoring of the event at www.bamagolf.com.
