Gridiron Dogs Go Through Paces Of Third Spring Practice
Of note on Thursday was the return of junior quarterback Omarr Conner, who had missed the first two days of spring drills with an ankle sprain. Conner's presence under center was a welcome site for head coach Sylvester Croom.
"Having Omarr back was nice," Croom said. "He made some nice throws, but his footwork is not there yet. He's just easing back into itSreal, real rusty, but we hope he will be back at full speed after the break."
Croom also noted that junior offensive lineman Brad Weathers, who had missed the last two years due to a nerve injury in his back, will not be able to play again in 2005. Weathers will stay with the Bulldog football program as a student assistant, helping out with the instruction of the MSU front line.
"Brad will not be able to play," Croom commented. "He had some numbness in his shoulder after hitting the sled, and he doesn't feel confident in trying it. I agree with him in that we don't want to do anything that would jeopardize his health in the long run."
State will conclude this week's schedule Friday with their first workout in helmets and shoulder pads. The Bulldogs will then be off next week for the university's spring break holiday. The Bulldogs return to practice after the break for four straight days of work, March 21-24.
