Lady Bulldog Golfers Compete In LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Mississippi State women¹s golf team will travel to Baton Rouge, La., on Friday, March 18, for the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic. The tournament will be held at The University Club on the Women¹s Championship Tees, a par 72, 6,269 yard course.
"We have now hit the halfway mark of our regular season," said head coach Christi Sanders. "It will be important to maintain our consistency from here on out. The team has practiced over spring break and will be ready for the challenge of a good golf course and demanding field at the LSU event."
The field consists of Alabama, Augusta State, Birmingham-Southern, College of Charleston, James Madison, Kansas, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Mississippi, UNC Wilmington, North Carolina State, North Carolina, Tulane and Vanderbilt.
For the Lady Bulldogs, the lineup will be Beth Irwin, Julia Huh, Amanda Mathis, Janet Dyer and Stephanie Godare. Irwin continues to lead the team with her 74.41 stroke average. Second is sophomore Amanda Mathis with a 75.59 average. Both have competed in all six tournaments this season.
Tee times will begin at 8:30 a.m. CST on Friday and Saturday, and there will be a shotgun start to begin the final round Sunday at 8:30 a.m. State tees off for the first round beginning at 9:15 a.m.
At the 2004 LSU/Cleveland Classic, the squad finished 10th out of 17 teams, shooting a 317-319-310. Irwin paced the team with her tied for 15th performance.
