State Opens Up Competition At Alabama Relays
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.?€”Mississippi State University's outdoor track and field squadclosed out day two of the Alabama Relays on Friday afternoon. Freshman JosephQueen (Jackson, Miss./Jackson Prep) finished fifth in the decathlon andsophomore Shelby Nousain (Concord, Mich./Concord) competed in the men's10,000-meter run.
Decathlon events began Thursday and resumed Friday at the Sam Bailey Track andField Complex on the University of Alabama campus. Overall, Queen tallied 5,475points. In the pole vault, he finished third with a jump of 14-1 1/4. Queenfinished second in the 1500-meter run in 4 minutes, 52.07 seconds.
"Coach Rademeyer and Coach Gant did a great job of preparing Joseph for thisevent," said assistant coach Mike Cunningham. "He did a great job, and we lookfor him to improve throughout the year."
Nousain set a personal best in the 10,000-meter run, finishing eighth in33:41.36.
"Shelby had a fantastic race," said assistant coach Houston Franks. "He moved upstrong and ran tough through the middle. He has set personal best in two eventsin two meets this year. He's running really well right now."
Action resumes Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with the men's and women's hammerthrow.
