Bulldog Golfers Travel To Homewood Suites Invitational
STARKVILLE, Miss. -?€“ Competing for the third consecutive week, the Mississippi State men's golf team concludes the three-week stretch in Mobile, Ala. on Monday and Tuesday, March 21-22, in the Homewood Suites Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama.
The two-day, 54-hole event will be played at the par-72 Azalea City Golf Course. The course was built in 1928 and has served as one of USA's home courses since 1966.
State is coming off a seventh-place finish last weekend in the Conrad Rehling Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Bulldogs were led by senior Joe Deraney, who registered his sixth top-20 finish of the 2004-05 campaign. He placed 17th in the field last week at Ol' Colony Golf Club.
MSU head coach Clay Homan will start Deraney, Tim Satow, Josh Oller, Jake Lambert and Michael Knight. Deraney, Satow and Oller have competed in all 21 rounds this season for State. Homan has inserted Jake Lambert and Michael Knight back in the five-man line up. Making his senior season debut competing as an individual will be Matt Mooney. The Brookhaven, Miss. native last played in the dual match last season versus Memphis at Old Waverly Golf Club. He received his bachelor's degree in general business in December of 2004 and is currently on pace to receive his master's in business administration.
The 13-team field that will converge at Azalea City Golf Course includes Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Birmingham Southern, Eastern Michigan, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee State, New Orleans, South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Mississippi, Troy and Tulane.
The first round will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, followed by the second round in the afternoon.
