Bulldogs Keep It Close But Can't Hold On As Duke Advances
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Mike Krzyzewski became the winningest coach in NCAA tournament history when top-seeded Duke beat Mississippi State 63-55.
It's the 66th tourney win for Krzyzewski, moving him ahead of North Carolina's Dean Smith. It also put the Blue Devils into the Sweet 16 for the eighth straight year.
The Bulldogs stayed with the Blue Devils and tied the game 50-to-50 late in the second half. But Shelden Williams snapped the tie on a three-point play before blocking Lawrence Roberts' shot at the other end. Williams had 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Blue Devils, who take on number-five Michigan State in the Austin Regional semifinals.
Daniel Ewing scored 22 points and J.J. Redick added 16 to the win.
Roberts paced the Bulldogs with 17 points and eleven rebounds but shot just 5-for-18. Ontario Harper also had 17 points for Mississippi State.
