Bulldogs Begin Second Week Of Spring Practice
The first workout of the second week came one week, however, after the team ended its first week of practice. Croom's team took off last week as the school observed a spring break from classes. The absence from work, however, did not wear well on the team or its head coach.
"I thought we looked a lot like we did last year, and that's just not good enough," Croom said. "Defensively, we ran to the ball well and tackled better, but the offense would have had a hard time scoring against air (no defense).
Rising senior linebacker Clarence McDougal (Clinton, Miss.) grabbed the coach's attention for his improved hitting, but Croom could not get past his offense's maladies.
"We worked on snap counts today," Croom said, "and we can't get past 'one.' Every time we do, we jump offside. We have a lot of work to do. There are no shortcuts to where we want to go, but we're going to get there."
The Bulldogs continue that pursuit with practices Tuesday and Wednesday before their first scrimmage of the spring Thursday. The team will then take the remainder of the week off for the Easter holidays.
