Joe Deraney Named Co-SEC Golfer Of The Week
The last time the Bulldogs have won both the individual and team title came during the 1997 campaign. MSU and Michael Connell won the Cleveland/ Augusta State Invitational.
Deraney posted rounds of 69-70-71 to force a playoff with Louisiana Tech's Derek Busby. He made par on the first hole to win the event. He has been State's top-finisher in seven of the eight tournaments in 2004-05. He leads the team in scoring with a 72.38 average and has registered four top-10 finishes this season. The team captain has competed in all 24 rounds that the Bulldog linksters have played. This past week he moved past former MSU golfer Steve Pope to seventh on the school's career rounds-played chart with 119 rounds played.
South Carolina's Mark Anderson joins Deraney as this week's award winner. Anderson won the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational. He led the Gamecocks to a sixth-place finish in the event.
