In doubles, MSU's 21st-ranked duo of Zsuzsanna Fodor and AnastasiaKugakolova upset Georgia's seventh-ranked tandem of Shadisha Robinson andCaroline Basu on court one, 8-3. Georgia took the doubles point to start thematch, winning at No. 2 and No. 3. Kelley Hyndman and Evgenia Subbotinadefeated MSU's Hayley Rudman and Tarryn Rudman at the second spot, 8-4. AtNo. 3, Polina Kokoulina and Magdi Rekasi fell, 8-2, to Natalie Frazier andJitka Schonfeldova.
State's 21st-ranked Fodor defeated fifth-ranked Robinson on court one, afterfalling 6-4 in the first set. Fodor came back and won the match, 6-2, 6-2,in the second and third sets. In her last two singles matches, the Budapest,Hungary, native has upset two top-10 ranked players in the country,defeating Alabama's then seventh-ranked Robin Stephenson on March 13, 7-5,6-2.
Junior Kugakolova dropped her first set to 23rd-ranked Frazier, 6-0, and wasdown 3-0 in the second at No. 2. She fought back and took the second set ina 7-6(5) tiebreaker and won the match when Frazier defaulted the third set.Tarryn Rudman was also victorious, defeating Hyndman at the third spot, 6-2,6-3.
Freshman Kokoulina fell, 6-2, 6-2, to Subbotina on court four, and freshmanRenee Joseph dropped her match to Basu, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 5. Senior Rekasiwas defeated, 6-2, 6-2, at the sixth position, by Schonfeldova.
Next, the Lady Bulldogs host the 19th-ranked Lady Vols of Tennessee onSunday, March 27, at 1 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
