#34 Mississippi State Lady Netters Upset #19 Tennessee Lady Vols, 4-2
State won the doubles point to begin the match. At the first spot, MSU's20th-ranked tandem of Zsuzsanna Fodor and Anastasia Kugakolova defeatedTennessee's Sabita Maharaj and Bryce Marable, 8-1, increasing their winningstreak to five matches. Polina Kokoulina and Magdi Rekasi shut out MelissaSchaub and Ghizela Schutte at the second position, 8-0. The match betweenMSU's Hayley Rudman and Tarryn Rudman and UT's Daron Moore and AshleyRobards was suspended with State up 3-2 at No. 3.
Fodor and Kugakolova have broken into the MSU record books for doublesvictories. Fodor is in seventh place for doubles wins in a season with 24,and Kugakolova has 23 for eighth place. Fodor and Kugakolova as a team arein fifth on the list for team doubles wins in a season with 18.
MSU's 21st-ranked Fodor took her singles match over 42nd-ranked SabitaMaharaj, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1. Fodor has a singles record of 30-6 so far thisseason, leaving her in second place on the MSU all-time list for singleswins in a season. The current record holder is Andrea Lord with her 31 winsduring the 1999-2000 season.
Winning the squad's third point of the match, sophomore Tarryn Rudmandefeated Bryce Marable in a three set match, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, at the thirdspot. Kokoulina clinched the upset win for the Lady Bulldogs, downing AshleyRobards, 6-1, 6-2, at the fifth spot.
Kugakolova fell, 7-5, 6-4, in a tough match to UT's Blakeley Griffith at No.2. Renee Joseph dropped her match with Victoria Jones in a super settiebreaker after coming back and winning the second set in a tiebreaker,7-5, 6-7(4), 1-0(5).
Next, the Lady Bulldogs will host Arkansas in their last home match of theseason on Friday, April 1, at 3 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
