McWilliams Nominated For The Collegiate Women Sports Award
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State University's Tiffany McWilliams has been nominated for The Collegiate Women Sports Award in Track and Field, announced on Tuesday by The Collegiate Women Sports Awards committee. The winner will be decided by nationwide voting among NCAA member schools. The winner will receive the Honda Award for track and field and also become a nominee for The Honda-Broderick Cup awarded annually to the nation's outstanding collegiate woman athlete of the year.
"It is just an honor to be in the finals for the award," said McWilliams. "All the girls that are finalist are also runners and really great athletes. I feel privileged to be among them."
American Honda will donate $1,000 to the women's athletic fund of each nominee's university and the winner's program will receive $5,000.
"All the finalists are great athletes and deserve to win," said head coach Al Schmidt. "I'm just pulling for Tiffany."
McWilliams is among four nominees for the award. Hyleas Fountain of the University of Georgia, Kim Smith of Providence College and Lauryn Williams of the University of Miami are also up for the award.
The results will be announced on Friday, May 28.
