SEC Outdoor Track Championships To Air On Fox Sports
The Bulldogs finished seventh at the Championships with a total of 42 points, the team's best finish since 1992 when State hosted the meet. Trey Hardee won the decathlon with a provisional qualifying score of 7,480 points. LaChristopher Lewis finished fifth in the 400m with a personal best time of 45.73, also a regional qualifying time. Just over an hour later, he took fourth in the 200m dash in a regional qualifying time of 20.88. In the long jump, Lewis took fourth with a career best distance of a wind-aided 25-8.
Setting a personal best time, Jamel Ashley took fifth in the 100m dash in a regional qualifying time of 10.49. Ashley, Arthur Davis, Keston Nelson and Lewis finished second in the 4x400m relay in a season best time of 3:03.42, the second fastest time in MSU history. Matt Denton leapt 6-8 3/4 in the high jump for a fourth place showing, scoring five points for the Bulldogs. JD Erickson scored a point for the Bulldogs in the discus with a regional qualifying distance of 169-3.
The Lady Bulldogs 11th at the meet with a total of 22 points. Tiffany McWilliams had a stand out meet, defending her SEC titles in the 1500m and 800m. She recorded a 2:01.00 in th prelims of the 800m run, breaking the SEC Meet record, Ole Miss Track and Field Complex record, the MSU record and setting a new personal best time. She won the event with a time of 2:01.96. She also set a SEC Meet record and Ole Miss Track and Field Complex record in the 1500m run, winning the event in 4:09.19.
Michelle Kinney scored the other two points for the Lady Bulldogs with a career best throw in the javelin, a 122-4 for seventh place. The squad competes next at the MidEast Regional in Baton Rouge, La., May 28-29.
