Bulldogs Send Three To CoSIDA Academic All-District Squads
Jaspers, McMichael Get First Team Nod; O'Nan Voted To Second Team
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Kate Jaspers joined Iyhia McMichael on the first team, and Meagan O'Nan rounded out Mississippi State's honorees on the second squad, as the CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams were announced Thursday afternoon by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Mississippi State sent its most honorees to the squads in school history and joined fellow SEC Western Division member LSU as the only schools to have three student-athletes named to the squads. With the announcement, Jaspers and McMichael will now go on the national ballot for Academic All-American voting.
"All three of these ladies are prototypical of what a student-athlete should be, both on and off the field," said Mississippi State head coach Jay Miller. "It is nice to see that their outstanding dedication in the classroom, as well as on the playing field, is not going unnoticed. This is a phenomenal honor for our program, as well as Mississippi State University."
Jaspers finished her academic career at Mississippi State with a cumulative GPA of 4.0 in Psychology, becoming just the fifth MSU varsity athlete and the first Bulldog softball player in school history to accomplish the task. McMichael completed her academic stay in Starkville with a 3.24 cumulative GPA in General Business Administration. Both received their degrees from MSU at graduation ceremonies on May 8 in Humphrey Coliseum.
O'Nan, who is currently enrolled in graduate school at Mississippi State, held down a 3.66 cumulative GPA as an undergrad in Educational Psychology and is set to earn her Master's Degree from the University next Spring.
