Bulldogs Advance To Finals In Three Relays At Penn Relays
PHILADELPHIA, Penn. -- Mississippi State University men's 4x400m relay team of Jamel Ashley, LaChristopher Lewis, Arthur Davis and Keston Nelson advanced to the finals of the Championship of America race with a regional qualifying 3:06.77 performance at the 110th annual Penn Relays at Franklin Field on Friday. The squad holds the top time entering the finals.
"We feel real good about having the fastest time in the 4x200m and have a chance to win all three men's relays tomorrow," said head coach Al Schmidt. "We are really excited about the competition tomorrow."
Bulldog's Trey Hardee, Jamel Ashley, Arthur Davis and LaChristopher Lewis comprised MSU's 4x100m and 4x200m relays teams. The 4x200m team qualified for finals winning the Championship of America prelims with a 1:22.70, and the 4x100m team advanced to finals with a 40.44, also a regional qualifying time to win their heat. Finals will be held for all three relays on Saturday.
In the men's shot put, Matt Whalen threw a 51-9 1/4 for ninth place, and JD Erickson took 12th in the event with a distance of 50-11.
On the women's side, Lady Bulldogs Kia James, Nicole Dunn, Zita Magloire and Jennifer McPherson took 10th in the sprint medley relay Championship of America race with a 3:58.58.
