Minnesota's Andrea Wahlin Signs With MSU Track Team
"Andrea is the missing link we have been needing in the 800m," said Schmidt. "She fills the bill that we need."
The Cold Spring, Minn., native was the 2002 2A Minnesota State Champion in the 800m with her time of 2:13.48 and a member of the 2003 Minnesota State Championship 4x400m relay team (3:55.90), running the third leg of the race. She finished third at the 2003 Championships in 2:16.38 in the 800m.
"I'm very excited about running for coach Schmidt and coach Cunningham and becoming the best runner I can be," said Wahlin. "The track and field program at Mississippi State is strong, and I look forward to contributing to the team's success as a ?’Bulldog' in my college career."
With her personal best times, she holds four school records, two conference records and a section record. She holds the school and conference record in the 800m run with a 2:12.20 and in the 1600m with a 5:11. She was also a member of the 4x200m relay team that holds the school record with a 1:43.79 and the 4x400m relay team that has the school and section record with a time of 3:55.9.
While at Rocori High School, she was a 2003 Minnesota Runner of the Year Finalist and was named 2003 Spring Performer of the the Week by the Central Lakes Conference. In addition to track, she earned a spot on the all-Conference Academic team for basketball and cross country.
Wahlin was a very active student serving as the student senate president, a mentor in the Rocori "Friends" organization and the Project for Teens mentoring group. She is also a Sunday school teacher.
