Tupelo's Robert Scribner Signs With MSU Track Team
"We are happy to sign the number one distance runner in the state of Mississippi in Robert," said Dudley. "This solidifies us getting the number one distance recruit the past two years out of the state. Brett Marlin was the top past year, and both were part of the same high school team."
Scribner has been a member of the Golden Wave 5A Cross Country State Championship Team for the past three seasons. A three-time all-State honoree, he won the individual crown at the 2003 State Cross Country Championship with his personal best time of 15:39.23. He defeated the runner-up by more than a minute with the fourth fastest time ever recorded at the Choctaw Trail.
"I am proud to sign with such a great program as Mississippi State," said Scribner. "It will be incredible to run with such talented athletes, especially my former teammate, Brett Marlin."
At the 2003 5A State Track Championships, he finished second in the 3200m in 9:53.31 and third in the 1600m in a time of 4:40.87. He boasts personal best times of 4:27 in the 1600m and 9:29 in the 3200m.
He holds the Tupelo High School records in the 3200m and 5K races and holds the cross country course records in Pontotoc, Saltillo, Tupelo and Oxford.
Off the track, he is a member of the Spanish National Honor Society, the Key Club and a six-time Rotary Scholar honoree. He is also the 2003 Mathematical Association of America AMC 12 competition winner.
Scoring a 31 on the ACT, Scribner plans to pursue a degree in business at MSU.
