Deraney Named To SEC Men's Golf Good Works Team
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State junior golfer Joe Deraney was named to the 2004 Southeastern Conference Men's Golf Good Works Team, announced by the league office on Monday.
This is the first year for the men's golf SEC Good Works Team. The SEC sponsors Good Works Teams in all 20 sponsored sports. The Good Works Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior efforts.
Deraney is a member of MSU's M-Club. He reads books to children at local elementary schools and helps with food and blood drives in the area. The Statesboro, Ga. native donates clothes to the Salvation Army and the Palmer Home for Children in Starkville and participates in trash pick-up along highways in the area.
He is coming off of his best Maroon and White performance with a career-best 66 in the final round of the SEC Championship this past Sunday in Sea Island, Ga.
