Huxman Cards A Career-Best 71 At SEC Championship
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -?€“ Mississippi State freshman golfer Greg Huxman turned in a career-best 71 in the second round of the 2004 Southeastern Conference Championship on Saturday at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga. The rookie from Miami, Fla. led the Maroon and White in scoring on the day and sits in a tie for 27th going into the final day. The Bulldogs slipped three spots to 12th after placing ninth after day one of the three-day event after firing a 302 on the day.
Junior Joe Deraney finished one-shot better than his Friday score of 76. Tim Satow stands in 31st after his second-round 76. Daniel Boles rounded out State's score with an 80. Craig Horrocks posted an 81.
Georgia and Florida are the co-leaders after 36 holes with an even-par 560. UGA struggled on Saturday after firing 11 under-par on Friday. The Auburn Tigers sit just three-strokes back of the leaders. Two Gators are atop the leaderboard at three under-par.
The Bulldogs will conclude the Championship on Sunday with an 8 a.m. tee time.
