Mobile's Brigham Signs With Bulldog Tracksters
"John is probably one of the all-time top 10 distance recruits out of the state of Alabama," said Dudley. "This is a pretty big statement considering the people who have actually come out of Alabama. He is a very good pick up for us, not only athletically, but also academically, because he is an intelligent individual that scored very high on his test scores."
Brigham holds the distinction of being the 2003 Indoor and Outdoor State Champion in the two-mile and the 2004 Indoor mile and two-mile State Champion. He competes in the 2004 Outdoor State Championship at the end of April.
He has helped the Saints to three runner-up finishes at the Indoor State Championship, two third place finishes at the State Cross Country Championship and a fourth place showing at the Outdoor State Championship.
"I'm excited to sign with Mississippi State because I already know a bunch of people on the team," said Brigham. "I feel like I have a lot of good friends there, and I like Coach Dudley a lot. I really enjoyed my visit to MSU."
His cross country personal best marks include a 9:40.78 in the 3200m at the 2003 McGill-Toolen Invitational and a 15:51.48 in the 5000m at the 2002 Foot Locker South meet. Brigham set his PR in the indoor 1600m run when he won the 2004 Alabama High School Athletic Association Indoor State Championship with a time of 4:22.12. His best indoor 3200m mark of 9:19.88 was recorded at the 2004 Hoover Indoor Classic.
In outdoor competition, his top times are a 4:15.87 in the 1600m set at the 2004 Mountain Brook Invitational, a 9:12.11 in the 3200m at the 2004 Mobile Meet of Champions and a 9:53.39 in the two-mile run at the 2002 Dannon Mobile Meet of Champions.
He is a member of Saint Pauls' National Honor Society and was named to the Head Master's List, the top honor roll at the school. His extracurricular activities include the Fellow of Christian Students, the Morning Saints Bible Study and serving as the editor for the Epistle, the school newspaper.
Brigham plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in economics at MSU.
