Bulldog Golfers In Ninth At SEC Championships
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- Mississippi State's men's golf team opened the 2004 Southeastern Conference Championship with a 294 in the first round Friday at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga. MSU is in ninth in the 12-team standings.
Friday's opening-round score is the best first-round score of the SEC Championships for the Bulldogs since the 1998 Championship held in Athens, Ga.
Junior Tim Satow recorded State's low-round of the day with a two over-par 72. The Durban, South Africa native is currently tied for 20th. Daniel Boles is one-shot behind him with a 73 in 29th place. Joe Deraney and Greg Huxman both finished the day with a 76, they are tied for 43rd. Craig Horrocks turned in a 79.
The Georgia Bulldogs are atop the leaderboard after round one with an 11 under-par 269. Alabama is second with an even-par 280. The Crimson Tide's Clint Provost leads all individuals with a five under-par score in the first round. UGA's David Denham and Todd Brendon are one-shot back at four under-par.
Only nine players registered rounds under-par on Friday.
The Maroon and White will start Saturday's second-round at 8:50 a.m. CT. They are paired with South Carolina and Vanderbilt.
